Documentaries
Here are a few of the projects I produced and reported with Newsy Documentaries. I spearheaded these documentaries from the pitch to the release, planned and executed immersive scenes, secured high profile interviews, filed records requests, wrote the scripts, field produced and drove the journalism and storytelling of the months-long projects. “Asylum” was a finalist for a 2018 EPPY award. In this special report, we went to the U.S.-Mexico border and El Salvador to meet the people who are most affected by the Trump Administration’s changes to asylum policy. I served as the producer and correspondent, working alongside a local producer in El Salvador, a videographer and an editor/graphics producer/colorist.
“Walkout” won a 2019 National Murrow Award in Breaking News - Large National News Organization. The report follows two Oklahoma teachers as they decide to walk out of their classrooms to protest for better funding and pay. I served as the producer, working alongside two videographers and an editor/graphics producer/colorist.
“Blowout” was a finalist for a 2019 Scripps Howard Award in Environmental Reporting. The documentary traces American oil and natural gas from production in West Texas and Colorado to where it’s sold and used, in India, while examining the positive and negative effects along the way. It was part of a four-newsroom collaboration between Newsy, The Associated Press, The Texas Tribune and the Center for Public Integrity. I served as the producer, working alongside the Correspondent/Producer, two videographers, a data reporter and an editor/graphics producer/colorist.
